Question for car audio experts who are fimilar with Dynamat, Fatmat, Edead, etc.??
Question: I have a 2000 Kia Sephia in which I recently upgraded the Car Stereo in. I got a Pioneer P7700 series head unit and I think it was too powerful for my factory speakers and it blew them ,so I then replaced the speakers too. The problem I have now though is that the speakers (especially the back ones) rattle against the metel and it sounds horrible with certain music. I tried to adjust the bass ,but the all the features are too complex for my taste I beleave. I know there is sound dampening material I can buy that might help ,but all of it seems pretty pricey for a sheet of aluminum rubber stuff. I'm not sure what's so special about it so perhaps someone can tell me what's in this stuff that makes it so expensive to buy! Also can you tell me of any and all possible alternatives that would be much MUCH cheaper. Would Carpet or some type of home insallation work? Please give me any advice. Thank You.
Answers: if speakers rattle the metal, that probably means they are not screwed in tight enough in place. make sure thay are screwed in tight, and not moving around.
weather proofing stuff for roofs. exact same stuff (close enough) but 1/10th the price.
Supply and demand. That's why it's expensive. They charge that much because they can. A layer of thick automotive carpet should do the trick as far as rattling, but won't improve the sound quality. You should be able to find a Dynamat door kit for around $20-$40. The Dynamat will work better, but you can get away with carpet. Don't use any home insulation.
Some alternatives: second skin, RAAMaudio, Road Kill....all just as good if not better than Dynamat....and a hell of a lot cheaper. They are a butyl based substance that helps prevent heat transfer, rattles, and loss of waves (SPL). carpet would stop the rattle, but not improve anything else. I have used both second skin and dynamat. Second Skin is better in the long run, can handle temp a lot better and is way cheaper.
