I have a 1980 camaro and i'm thinking of going electric!??

Question: my friends have told me that electric fans are the way to go, but i have a friend who said what about if you lose power to the fan the car may overheat etc.i heard that you gain between 10 to 21 hp if you remove the fan from the motor. what is the best way to hok up the electric fan and will i gain hp?
Answers: First off, most new cars come equipped with an electric fan. I'm thinking of doing that too with my muscle car. My wife's car already has an electric fan and it very seldom comes on while driving, its temperature sensitive. It only comes on when its over 100 degrees out or we're stuck in traffic and it 's barely moving or a stop light on hot days.

Don't be cheap, buy a good one and you shouldn't have any problems. Personally i wouldn't use the system of mounting that uses plastic ties or similar junk:. Mount it using metal brackets only.

And last, yes, you should gain a little horsepower. I'll take a SWAG at 8 to 12 horses when replacing a solid blade OEM fan.
