Me and my friend made a bet concerning a 1970 Chevelle chassis??
Question: I say that you can put a 69 GTO front clip( headlights and grille) and 1972 rear clip(tail lights and bumper) on a 1970 Chevelle body..because the Cutlass, GTO, and Chevelle had the same dimensions..it was a shared GM platform...he says that each car just used the same mechanics...suspension , engines, and transmisssions but the body panels are different...especially the front and rear clips...who is right?
Answers: The GTO, Chevelle, and Olds Cutlass were all A bodies with coil sprung rear suspension. They all had options for the same basic GM drum or disc brakes. Thats about where the shared parts end.
The front frame horns are different to accomodate different engines used in different cars. The body mounts were in different locations for the different bodies. Thus, the frames are different.
The engines were TOTALLY different. Thats well documented. Even tranny bolt pattern was different between Chevy and Olds/Poncho.
The rear axles were different. Chevy used the GM corp rear, Pontiac used the 8.2 BOP, and Olds had the Type O.
Wiring harnesses are different. For example, only the GTO had the wiring for Ram Air and Hood Tach.
Body shapes and front clips are so different between models. Nothing would line up if you tried to cross breed a '69 GTO with a Cutlass 442 on a Chevelle platform.
Neither-Goats have there own body lines as do a Chevelle-motors and transmissions are totally different between the two as so are there slight differences in suspension also.
I just asked my husband to answer this question . He's a mechanic and car guy. He said to tell you that your buddy had better pay up. You're right.
body parts will fit your right they had a shareed plat form but the motor and trani are far from shared they fit differently and tork differently. Tell him to come off your money.
Id say you lost the bet
