Anyone else have the GM limited slip diff. (G80)??
Question: i just bought a truck w/ one...i just wanted to ask anyone out there who owns one...how does it work? because today my right tire started slipping and it didn't seem to lock up...of course it only slipped for a second...and i know i have this option. what does it take to lock up the differential?
Answers: It is a limited slip not a locking differential there is some slipping allowed.
If the truck is used it may have had the differential fluid changed with the wrong stuff or it may just need a fluid change.
If it locked up completely turning corners would not be a good time.
It is not a limited slip, it is a true locking differential, but it does require some wheelspin to engage, otherwise you'd have both rear wheels locked all the time which would really cause some havoc on your tires! Also, the G80 will disengage at 20 mph to aid handling.
it has a govenor assembly that activates it thru centrifual force when one wheel spins, hard to explain easy to show it also has clutch packs on each side of the carrier could be any of the following clutch packs wore out,bad govner assy, missing gov assy,or you payed for something you didnt get,yes i said that ,screw up in the paper work suposed to have it but did not get installed @ the factory, hope this helps
