4.3 L Chevy with TBI??
Question: I have a 1990 Chevy W/T 4x4 std. cab with a 5 sp. tranny. The guy who owned it before put a Power Tower on it. Goodness knows that with the TBI it needs all the help it can get.(It's a pooch) It gets about 17 mpg on average. I guess thats not too bad for a full sized 4x4. But with gas heading for $3.00/ gal. I am more interested in mileage than speed. Does the Power Tower make any difference in power and economy or not?Also aside from keeping it tuned up and driving responsably is there any way to improve the mileage?
Answers: Well you may not like the TBI but if you had a carb instead that mileage might be 12 if you always were going downhill with a tailwind. TBI was an improvement. As for the power tower , well most of those kind of things are just gimmicks, all glitz and promise and little on results. Keep your tires inflated and your foot of the floor and enjoy the ride.
just drive easier...the power tower probably makes no difference. do a good tune up, replace plugs and wires, make sure your tires are inflated to the max they can be. other than that, 17 sounds about right for that engine in that truck.
try a bottle of octane booster every other tank full and see if that helps. also do not use 10 percent ethenol fuel it cuts your fuel mileage back.
