Rail on the Cass Scenic Railroad??
Question: I just rode the Cass Scenic Railroad, and I noticed the track was in quite good condition, especially the rail, which was 100 pound and in good shape. I was wondering, who installed that rail, the logging company or the tourist line?
Answers: The logging companies built the original rail line. The town of Cass and portions of the rail system and equipment were brought into the WV State Park system in the early 1960s. The WV Dept. of Natural Resources operates and maintains what is now known as the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park.
Glad you enjoyed your visit. I grew up in WV, and Cass is one of my fondest memories.
