Why don't traffic signals sense motorcycles??

Question: I just read a question about what trips traffic lights. Several experts answered. Why can't you build a sensor that detects motorcycles? I have starved close to death within sight of food many times waiting for the green light, and just by the grace of God someone pulled up in a car behind me to save me before I collapsed from malnutrition. Or I have just waited until no one's around and I run the dam thing. I also ordered a pizza on my cell phone from my bike one day and ate it at the light, and I even shared with other bikers who were stranded with me. It was quite a bonding experience. I'm just kidding about that, but the question stands. Turn up the sensitivity a little, will you please?
Answers: light sensors are generally a loop of wire under the asphalt, that detects the field created by a large chunk of metal above it, like a car. a motorcycle is smaller and might not trip the sensor in some cases.

if the motorcycle is right over the sensor, it would probably detect it, but since the motorcycle can be over to one side or the other and still be in the lane, whereas a car is wide enough that it covers most of the lane side to side.
if they can't sense you at the light, they won't be able to sense when you run it either.
seem like we did to fix that dont we think we need a vote have a bill pass or something i dont i sitting thru lights either
I suspect that they could not use light sensing because of environmental problems like snow or road dirt. They could be using pressure or weight sensing and that would be an adjustment on their part. You might try a right on red.
Actually, its thte other way around. Why dont motorcycles obey traffic signals??
Because they don't weigh enough and they sense weight.
Write your local traffic engineering office or visit them in person, same with your local officials. Those strips (which are magnetic, not weight-based) can be tuned to detect the presence of bicycles, let alone motorcycles (see link below and click Traffic Lights ). In most states it is legal to treat a red light as a stop sign if it does not change after 3 minutes, but check the law first. If nothing else, you can always dismount and walk your bike across the street as a pedestrian.
mate just do what i do ..use the lane closest to the curb and put bike up on footpath enough so that you can push the button so that the pedestrian signals change ..then when the lights turn back you have a green for your bike problem solved...
