Why do people sit on the aisle seat of the bus and not let other people sit next to them??

Question: You know who I mean? These people sit in the aisle seat and avert their eyes whenever anyone comes down the aisle. When someone wants to sit, they don't move to the window seat, just move their knees so the person can pass. And the worst part: they won't do this unless asked, even if the bus is completely full. Anyone here fit this description? Can someone try to explain this to me?
Answers: Maybe they're tall and like the extra legroom, or maybe they don't like sitting next to strangers. When I ride the subway I don't like giving up my seat because I like having elbow room, though I generally will move to the side when the car is full, unless I'm carrying luggage. People don't always choose to sit next to me, though. It's a shame you're encountering such discourteous people.
maybe they are unconfertable with the suroundings.
Aisle seats rock...people like you wanting to get by suck.
I always make sure they dont' sit next to me by apperaing over-eager to have them there; patting seat, smiling and making eye contact. Trust me, I ride solo; but never seem mean or stingy with the seat. It's a win-win!!!
I do that. Other than I try to let people sit if the bus is completely full, just out of common courtsey. I do it because I'm not comfortable first in a tiny bus seat (<~ not a small girl) and secondly, with a stranger that close to my personal space. Who knows who the guy walking down the aisle is! Assuming the new person isn't a freak, there's usually an expectation of some sort of small talk (ie great weather today, huh? Where are you headed to?) which I'm not comfortable with either. As far as not moving to the window seat....I was there first, I'm settled in...why should I have to move? It's your bad luck you picked a crowded bus. Maybe...why do you expect everyone else on the bus to accomodate you?
First come first served. They shouldn't be expected to move to accomodate another passenger. Sometimes you really don't feel like being friendly to strangers who start talking to you. Some people just annoy you by the way they smell, or their breath or even their strong perfume. Respect other people but place your backpack or giant purse next to you to keep others away. If they start small talk turn and look at them and say nothing if that's how you want it. If you are the last one boarding the bus and want to sit there, take the hint and just don't ask unless you are very desperate to sit there, but be prepared for rejection.
