In your opinion, what's the longest-lasting make and model of car and truck??
Answers: First 26 isn't too old for med school --not by a long shot. I know Md's that finished school in their 40's. But, why do you want a MD? knowledge, money or power? Nurse? Physician assistant? Nurse practitioner? or various therapist?
I have a nissan maxima, I've been very happy with -- 1990, and in 8 years i've only had to replace: the water pump, the right axle, and the usual oil, gas, and spark stuff (plugs, wires, distributor cap). If I would have sold it this summer all I'd report was oil, gas and standard tune ups. MY car is probably rare, but it's a good experience. Much to the annoyance of my GM working relatives.
Toyota
Toyota although Honda is a close second
Toyota and Nissan as a previous owner of both I found out that they both hold up very well and run for extended periods of time. On both of the vehicles that I owned the milage of the vehicles were around 300,000 miles or so as long as you keep the up keep on them like you are suppose to then they will run forever it seem like. Very well build, dependable, compfortable, gas efficent, great milage, and over all a great vehicle.
While make and model is a good starting point, by far the best factor in determining vehicle longevity is maintenance. Namely, whether or not oil changes, transmission fluid changes, and other routine maintenance is performed. I have a 2001 Ford Focus that runs and looks as good as the day it was new, and it has 110,000 miles on it, even despite the fact that the Focus doesn't have nearly a good a reputation for reliability as Hondas and Toyotas.
I'm not bashing anyone, just telling you to keep in mind that a little TLC goes a long way.
Any car can last as long as you want it to with proper care and maintenance, although the common perception these days are that Toyota and Honda are the way to go. My parents, though, have had some AMC Eagles that have lasted an awfully long time, and their Subaru's at well over 175,000 miles...
