Resident in the UK or just working in the UK? I dont expect any UK company will insure you until you have detailed written proof that you have papers proving residency. I would assume you might have Portugese insurance allowing you a maximum of 45 days insurance outside Portugal. UK drivers travelling outside the UK have a similar cotinual 45day [approx] day maximum if taking their car outside the UK. After a continuous 45days driving outside the UK, the insurance becomes invalid.
If resident in UK then try Tesco for car insurance. The do insure EU drivers if they hold a valid EU driving licence.
