How do I find out who the driver of a car is??

Question: I have the registration of a car but I do not know who the driver is can I obtain this information
Answers: Why do you have a need for that information? If it's because that car damaged you or your property, it really doesn't matter who was driving at the time because the owner of the car is responsible no matter what, unless it was stolen and reported as stolen before it damaged you. If that is the case, just contact your insurance with the registration information and they can take it from there. If you want the information for any other purpose, sorry, but unless you are law enforcement, a towing company in actual possession of the vehicle, or an insurance company investigating a claim, you have to right to that information. It is restricted.
Due to the Data Protection Act, you cant.
The police can. Why do you need this information?
It depends on where you live. In most states that information is protected from the public at large. however in afew states, any drivers or vehicle registration information is public record and can be gotten from the DMV. WI for exaple is notorious for making complete drivers records public including SSN's home adresses and other damaging info avalible to anyone. Even if your state doesn't give the info to the public, you can try to do web searches or use some of the on-line data mining resouces. Even if its supposed to be private, many times its somehow gotten out, if it did someone might have put it on the web.
